sacred encounters
As our lives increasingly take place in settings removed from nature (especially indoor and digital spaces), and climate change threatens our very existence, I think it is essential to find and pay attention to nature. If we take the time to notice and enjoy the living things all around us, we develop a fierce love for them that informs our actions. It motivates us to make choices for our planet out of love and not only fear. These artworks are of creatures I’ve encountered in the sacred space of the garden and woods around my home. Portraying them as icons, often with halos, is my way of showing reverence and love for their presence in my life.
